How to Get Free Baby Crib for Single Moms and Low-Income Families

There are programs available to help low-income parents or those who are pregnant with children in the United States. These agencies offer a free crib (at no cost) to ensure that your baby is safe and comfortable. These cribs are provided by programs designed to decrease the incidence of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

This article lists 49 non-profit agencies that you can contact in order to request a crib for your infant. The Graco Pack N’ Play is a portable crib that can be used as an infant playpen. This free crib is offered by most agencies.

Income Guidelines and Verifying Your Income Situation

Each state agency has its own income guidelines, such as maximum 140% and 180% of the national poverty guidelines. However, it can sometimes be easier to get a crib if you already receive federal assistance programs like Medicaid, WIC or SNAP. You can easily prove your income by having paperwork that confirms you have been approved for these programs.

General Requirements for Qualifying

You must be able to prove or provide the following:

  • At least 30 weeks pregnant mother or an infant should be present
  • Documentation proving residency and identification such as a driver’s license or state ID
  • You will need to provide proof of income such as pay stubs or SSI.
  • You can prove your need by providing proof of need such as your Medicaid number or SNAP approval letter.

How to Apply for a Free Crib

  1. Below is a list of agencies in your state.
  2. For more information, visit their website or contact them.
  3. You will need to complete and submit an application along with any supporting documents in order to get a crib. An example of a Broward County, Florida application for a crib free program is Cribs For Kids application.
  4. Once your application is approved, you will likely be given a course in infant safety and SIDS prevention. It could take several weeks for your application to be processed and your crib to arrive so don’t delay.
  5. The portable crib will be delivered with instructions for how to set it up.
