Minnesota Head Start Association
Head Start encourages good oral health starting at birth. A child’s oral health is an important aspect of their overall health and well-being. Good oral health is a sign of a child’s ability to eat right, sleep well, as well as develop the way they should. The ability of a child to learn is also affected by their oral health. Tooth pain can cause children to have difficulty completing schoolwork or other activities. Children with tooth pain may be anxious, withdrawn, or appear tired or depressed.
Children in Early Head Start should have their mouth and teeth checked at the first tooth eruption. They also need to be examined every year.
