1 – Building Communities of Recovery
For the Building Communities of Recovery program, applications are welcome from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. In short, this program is to bring together resources from the recovery community to support long-term recovery for opioid addiction and substance abuse.
These grants help promote and educate about recovery and help in developing, expanding, enhancing, and delivering recovery support services. These programs are usually for people who have recovered from substance abuse and represent a specific community.

2 – Medication Assisted Treatment | Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction (MAT-PDOA)
For the year of Medical Assisted Treatment| Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction grants, applications are open at the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
This grant aims to increase and expand access to medication assisted treatments for opioid abuse or addiction for those diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder. This program is designed to increase the number of OUD patients who are eligible for MAT. At six-month follow up, the program aims to decrease illicit opioid drug use as well as prescription drug abuse.
This grant is available to domestic nonprofit and public organizations that engage in relevant research activities.

- Total funding available – expected to be $71.322,952 (of this, approximately $11million is reserved for federally recognized tribes and tribal organizations).
- Expected number of grantees – 90 to 135

3 – Tribal Opioid Response Grants (TOR Grants)
SAMHSA is accepting applications for 2021 Tribal Opioid Response grants. This grant will help to end the opioid crisis in tribal communities by providing better access to evidence-based and culturally appropriate treatment methods.
In addition to this, recipients might also be eligible for research on stimulant misuse and disorders such as methamphetamine and cocaine addiction. As a result, the intention is to reduce the number of incomplete treatment requests and prevent overdose-related deaths by providing support services for prevention, treatment, and recovery.

4 – First Responders – Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act Grants (FR-CARA)
SAMHSA is accepting applications for 2022 First Responders – Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Grants. This grant is intended to train and equip first responders as well as key community members in the administration of a drug or device that can stabilize an opioid overdose.
In short, grant recipients will receive training and ample resources to help combat overdose in their local communities. The recipients will need to create clear processes, follow strict protocols and have effective mechanisms in place to help with treatment of opioid overdose. This grant is available to state governments, federally recognized tribes and tribal organizations, as well as local government entities like municipal corporations, boroughs or cities, and townships.

- Total funding available – estimated to be $7,900,000 (approximately $4.5million for rural communities with high rates of opioid abuse)
- Expected number of grantees – 15 to 20
- Expected award amount – $ 250,000-US$ 800,000 annually

5 – Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs (SPF Rx)
SAMHSA and the Center for Substance Abuse Preventions, are accepting applications for the 2022 Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs (SPF Rx). This program is designed to help states, US territories, and tribal organizations who have completed the Strategic Prevention Framework Partnership For Success program (SPF PFS), to tackle prescription drug abuse.
SAMHSA hopes to raise awareness about the dangers associated with sharing medication and collaborate with medical and pharmaceutical entities to over-prescribe medications to young people. SAMHSA will also monitor opioid overdoses and use Prescription Drug Monitoring Program data.
