There are many reasons why an individual may not be able to conceive. So, if you are feeling discouraged and want to start your own family, then fertility specialists can help.

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is the most commonly used to treat many causes of infertility. It is a general procedure that can help make dreams come true. However, it can be costly due to the many steps and cycles involved. Luckily, grants are available to help pay for treatment.

IVF Grants in Iowa – IVF Process and Steps

IVF is a type of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). It is the most commonly used form of fertility treatment. The procedure combines a woman’s eggs with a man’s sperm in a laboratory dish. Sometimes, only one sperm can be injected into an egg to encourage fertilisation. Then, doctors will fertilise the embryo and place it in a woman’s body, which leads to pregnancy.

The cost of an IVF cycle varies depending on the type of treatment and the medications used. In short, this is the procedure for one IVF cycle.

Step 1

This includes ovarian stimulation with fertility drugs. These drugs mature multiple eggs in 7-10 days. This step involves a series of vaginal ultrasounds and blood tests, which monitor the development and levels of hormones and ovarian follicles. After follicles have developed, the Luteinizing Hormone (Lh), and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), are administered to induce egg maturation.

Step 2

Removal of the eggs by transvaginal ultrasound aspiration. This happens within 35 to 37 hours. An ultrasound probe with a needle attached is inserted into the womb to retrieve eggs from the follicles.

Step 3

ICSI is the injecting sperm into an egg. When fertilisation is not possible, the doctors will recommend this technic.

Step 4

After egg retrieval, fertilized eggs divide into 2-4 cell embryos. Blastocysts are embryos that develop normally within five days of fertilization.

Step 5

After five days of fertilisation, doctors will place high-quality embryos for women’s uterus. Cryopreservation is an option for patients to store any remaining embryos for future cycles. Future cycles are less costly and more accessible. The reason is that there is no need to undergo ovarian stimulation or egg retrieval.
