IT support jobs for single mothers
Help people when their computers, accounts and software stop working, by phone, chat, remote access or in person.
What the job is
IT support specialists, often called help desk technicians, answer requests from staff or customers. They reset passwords and accounts, fix software and connection problems, set up computers and phones, and pass harder problems to specialists. Training and certification
BLS says entry requirements vary. Certification programs are offered by vendors and by vendor-neutral providers, and some companies require certifications in the products they use. CompTIA A+ is a common vendor-neutral starting point: it takes two exams, Core 1 on hardware and networking and Core 2 on operating systems and security, and CompTIA recommends about 12 months of hands-on experience first.

Questions about IT support jobs
Do I need a degree for IT support?
Not always. BLS says requirements vary, and many people start with certifications and hands-on experience. Employers may require certifications in the products they use.
What does CompTIA A+ involve?
Two exams, Core 1 and Core 2, taken from the same exam version. It is a common first certification for help desk roles.
Will I have to work nights?
Some help desks run around the clock, so some specialists work nights or weekends. Tell us your hours and we look for daytime or fixed shifts first.
Tell us about your IT experience
Send us the systems you have supported, any certifications and the hours you can keep. We look for IT support roles that fit.
