Sick leave for family
Georgia has no law requiring private employers to give sick leave. Under the Family Care Act, employers with 25 or more employees that already give sick leave must let employees who work 30 or more hours a week use up to 5 days a year of it to care for an immediate family member, including a child. A 2023 law made the rule permanent.
Family leave
Georgia has no state paid family leave program for private employers. Eligible employees can use the federal Family and Medical Leave Act for up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave.

Georgia’s Pre-K Program is funded by the lottery and free for every 4-year-old, whatever the family’s income. It runs 6.5 hours a day, five days a week, for 180 days a year. A 2026 law lets children who are 4 or 5 by September 1 enroll for one year.
Tax credits
Georgia has no state earned income credit. From tax year 2026, the Qualifying Child Credit gives $250 for each qualifying child under 6, first claimed on returns filed in 2027. It is nonrefundable. The federal Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit are explained on our support page.
