Hire for roles on hours a parent can keep

We help employers fill roles on school-hours, part-time, hybrid, remote and other flexible schedules, with candidates screened for the hours the job really needs.

Flexible role design

Many roles are written for a standard full-time week out of habit. Before a search starts, we look at what the job actually needs and whether it can run on a schedule more people can accept. Our schedule guides show each pattern week by week.

School hours

Set core hours inside the school day, such as 9:15 to 2:45, and plan cover for school breaks before the first day.

Part-time and job shares

Fix the days, state the weekly hours band, and consider two part-time people sharing one full-time role.

Remote and hybrid

Agree core hours and fixed office days, and settle equipment and time recording at the start.

Four-day weeks

Choose between a compressed 40-hour week and a reduced week, and check state daily overtime rules first.

Flexible starts

Set core hours and a start window, and stagger starts to cover the whole day.

How we screen candidates

Before anyone is introduced, we check their work history and the hours they can keep, and we confirm any license or registration the role needs against the issuing body’s public lookup where one exists. With the candidate’s permission, we speak to references. You receive notes on each candidate’s skills and available hours, and only candidates who have agreed to the introduction.

Ways to work with us

One role

We shape the schedule with you, run the search and introduce the candidates who fit.

Several roles

For teams on staggered shifts, such as a contact center or a busy practice, we fill several roles together so the shifts cover the whole day.

Shaping a role first

If you are not sure a role can run on flexible hours, we talk it through with you before you decide to search.

In every case we agree the terms, including any fee, in writing before we start, and you employ the person directly.

Equal opportunity

Every role we recruit for is open to every qualified applicant. We focus our outreach and support on single parents, and we never ask employers to prefer or exclude anyone because of sex, marital status or family status. Our equal opportunity page explains how we work.

Pay and the law for flexible roles

Overtime

Federal law requires overtime at one and a half times the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. California and a few other states also count daily overtime, which matters for four-day weeks.

Pay ranges in job ads

Of the states with a guide on this site, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Virginia and Washington require pay ranges in job postings, and Cleveland does too. Our state guides give the rules and the employer size each one covers.

Scheduling laws

Oregon and cities including New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle and Los Angeles require some employers in certain industries to post schedules in advance. Some states block cities from passing such laws.

Part-time staff and benefits

For health coverage, employers with 50 or more full-time employees, counting equivalents, must treat anyone averaging 30 or more hours a week as full-time.

Pregnancy and nursing

Employers with 15 or more employees must make reasonable accommodations for pregnancy and related conditions under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. Nursing employees are entitled to reasonable break time and a private place to pump, other than a bathroom, for a year after the birth.

Questions from employers

What does it cost?

We agree the terms of each search, including any fee, with you in writing before we start. Nothing on this website is an offer of terms.

Can you send us only single mothers?

No. Every role we recruit for is open to every qualified applicant. We focus our outreach on single parents, but we never filter candidates by sex, marital status or family status, and we turn down any request to do so.

Who employs the people you introduce?

You do. You interview, choose and employ the person directly, on your own payroll and terms.
