Texas TANF assists children in need and their parents or relatives they live with through cash assistance. They do not accept families with assets exceeding $1,000 and monthly countable income higher than $206.

The benefits you receive from TANF largely depend on your family’s income and size. A single mother of two without income may receive a monthly maximum of $303 from Texas.

How much is a one-time TANF payment in Texas? 

A one-time TANF is available to families in crisis (losing a job, losing a home, or a medical emergency), receiving a maximum of $1,000. 

This part of the program can only be applied once a year. Those eligible for TANF for Families are eligible for one-time TANF. 

Grandparents taking care of their grandchildren may also receive a one-time payment of $1,000 from Texas.

How long can you receive TANF in Texas? 

Texas limited the receiving of benefits for TANF cash assistance to 5 years (60 months).
